Durian Fun Facts

The Five Flavors of Durian

Durian is a truly unique tropical fruit.

The cultivation process is lengthy and requires the perfect harmony of favorable weather, optimal terrain, and human dedication. The taste of durian is not just sweet; it also encompasses floral notes, bittersweetness, a hint of alcohol, and a numbing sensation.

Sweetness

Durian trees cultivated for 7 to 10 years yield durians with a sweet and mellow flavor. In contrast, trees grown for over 12 years produce durians that are sweet with a touch of bitterness.

Floral Notes

Some durian trees over 30 years old have grown in high-altitude environments, accompanied by durian flowers for a long time. Half an hour after a ripe durian falls from these trees, the numbing sensation dissipates, but a lingering floral fragrance remains.

Hint of Alcohol

From old trees aged over 30 to 40 years, the durian flavor is not only sweet but also carries an alcoholic aftertaste. A single durian can bring you endless joy, happiness, and satisfaction.

Bittersweetness

Durians from trees over 7 years old offer a two-layered tasting experience with a sweet and aromatic flavor. As a true durian connoisseur, you don't merely seek sweetness; you also gently savor the bittersweet aftertaste of the flesh.

Numbing Sensation

The few hours after a durian falls from the tree are the "golden hours." Durian flesh tasted within the very first half-hour will carry a slight numbing sensation on the palate. If you want to experience top-tier durian, timing is absolutely crucial.
